Is commission charged on shipping?

No. Commission is calculated on the item’s final sale price, excluding shipping and taxes. Payment processing does apply to total order value, which includes shipping and taxes.

Why is the effective fee rate higher than 8%?

Because payment processing (percent + fixed fee) stacks on top of commission, and shipping/taxes increase the processing base even when commission ignores them.

Do UK/EU sellers pay VAT on fees?

Does this replace my Whatnot order receipt?

No. This is an estimator for planning floors. Your payout and fee lines on each order are authoritative.

How does WhatCopilot use fees?

How Whatnot seller fees work

Whatnot deducts two marketplace layers before payout. Think in layers — not one magic percentage.

Commission fee: Whatnot’s share of the item’s final sale price (excludes shipping and taxes).
Payment processing fee: percentage of total order value (sale + shipping + taxes) plus a fixed per-order fee.
On eligible high-value categories, commission can drop to 0% on the portion above $1,500 / £1,500 / €1,500 (limited-time — confirm on Help Center).
UK/EU schedules list fees “+ VAT”; your local VAT rate may differ.
Refunds, giveaways, seller-paid shipping promotions, and category exceptions are not in this calculator.

Two US worked examples

Same Help Center layers as the calculator. Processing uses sale + buyer-paid shipping + tax. Illustrative — receipts win.

Commission 8% = $0.08. Processing 2.9% × $1 + $0.30 = $0.33. Net ≈ $0.59 before COGS. Cheap base without a floor is how break nights look busy and still lose money.
$200 coin (Coins & Money, $8 buyer shipping, $0 tax)
Commission 4% × $200 = $8.00. Processing 2.9% × $208 + $0.30 = $6.33. Net ≈ $185.67. The 4% tier helps — processing still hits the full checkout.

Set a price floor before going live

Fees are managed before you open the lot. A start that is “too low for energy” often becomes an unprofitable show.
